After the Wave

After the wave

went by

all the people

left the island

to go home

and see what they

owned.

After the wells

went dry

then we quickly

found

some others

to revive the

flow of the town.

Hard as rock and

smooth as stone

many years have

been and gone.

We still have water

still wear shoes

still buy ties and

read the news

still wear shoes

still buy ties and

hide what we're

thinking

After the boy went

by with a package

in his blazer

full of coins

to throw in the

fountain.

Some of us were

standing by

and we talk to

one another

Or we don't

and stare at the

ground.
